Roam Network joins peaq to grant telcos DePIN-sourced network performance data
peaq, the layer-1 blockchain for DePIN and Machine RWAs, announces the expansion of its ecosystem as Roam Network joins to decentralize mobile network performance assessment. Through the Roam App, people can earn crypto rewards for sharing data on the local mobile network quality. As part of the integration, Roam will leverage peaq’s Modular DePIN Functions to manage device identities and and verify the crowdsourced data. It will also mint its token natively on peaq.
Mobile operators are expected to invest some $1.5 trillion into their networks between 2023 and 2030. As the telecom industry adjusts to the growing demand for data, though, it still struggles with getting granular insights into the quality of service received by an individual user. On the other end of the equation are their enterprise customers paying for data in bulk — and oftentimes overpaying, as they lack the visibility into the real amount of access for every employee.
Roam Network is a mobile-first DePIN that rewards people with crypto for the data on the quality of mobile coverage in their area. By installing its Roam App, mobile users can share anonymized insights on the signal they get, helping Roam build granular datasets on mobile coverage. This data is of tremendous value for telecom companies, which get a detailed insight into the quality of service they deliver and can improve their networks accordingly. It is also useful for their business customers, who can streamline their spending on mobile internet.
With a total of more than 5,000 users in the first few months since the launch, Roam is already present in 149 countries. In the future, Roam will also launch Roam Infra — another DePIN rewarding users for improving their local mobile coverage with specialized hardware.
Integrating peaq as its layer-1 blockchain, Roam will leverage peaq ID as the identity management standard for its DePIN. It will also tap peaq’s integration of Particle Network to enable people to join the DePIN with their regular credentials, such as email or social media handles. Roam will leverage peaq’s data storage and verification frameworks and will issue its token natively on the network.
“The DePIN model offers a perfect solution to a challenge that costs telcos and their clients billions every year,” says Michail Angelovco-founder at Roam Network. “By crowdsourcing the network performance data they need so dearly, we literally turn signal bars into crypto rewards. peaq’s scalability is a crucial benefit in that regard, as it enables us to quickly grow to the critical mass that the industry requires, and peaq’s Modular DePIN Functions take care of some of the most critical DePIN components for us, such as identity and data verification.”
“Mobile phones are some of the most ubiquitous devices in the world, and everyone knows how annoying a weak signal can be,” says Leonard Dorlöchter, co-founder of peaq. “Roam Network leverages the Web3 community to build a DePIN that will spare all of us the headache of a poor connection. With that, it also solves real pain points of real-world businesses, advancing DePIN adoption in the enterprise sector and bringing Web3 at the core of another real-world value exchange.”
