Mr. Tham brings extensive experience in capital markets, particularly in technology sectors, spanning over 25 years. His career includes roles in research, investment banking, and finance, notably and most recently as Managing Director and Head of Technology Investment Banking at PI Financial Corp. (Ventum Financial).

Vay Tham’s expertise will be pivotal in leading ALT5 Sigma’s go-to-market strategy to educate customers on how to enhance their digital financial ecosystem. He has a background in Electrical Engineering, graduating from the University of Waterloo in 1999, and has previously founded, grown, and successfully sold his own fund, managing over $300 million in assets at the time.

In this role, Vay will lead ALT5 Sigma’s go-to-market strategy, with a focus on expanding the market share of ALT5’s leading digital financial ecosystem. Vay Tham, who most recently served as PI Financial Corp.’s (Ventum Financial), Managing Director, Head of Technology Investment Banking, has over 25 years’ experience in capital markets. Vay’s career has spanned research, investment banking, and finance roles. In addition, Mr. Tham previously founded, grew, and sold his own fund, which had over $300 million of assets under management. Vay has predominantly focused on technology companies throughout his career.

In addition, the Company today announced that, as an inducement grant, on June 25, 2024, our Board of Directors and our Compensation Committee granted Mr. Tham 400,000 restricted stock units (the “RSUs”). The RSUs will vest over two years, subject to certain “Change of Control” accelerators as defined in JanOne’s 2023 Plan. Although granted as inducement awards outside of JanOne’s 2023 Plan, the RSUs are subject to the terms of that Plan. The RSUs are intended to be inducement awards under Rule 5635(c)(4) of the Nasdaq Stock Market Listing Rules and were granted outside of JanOne’s 2023 Plan.

“Light Up Africa” Children’s Solar Lamps: This project aims to provide solar lamps to school-age children in rural Africa, enabling them to continue studying at night and illuminating their futures. In February 2024, the first batch of 2,500 solar lamps donated by KuCoin was sent to 25 schools in Nigeria. In October, another 7,200 solar lamps were delivered to communities in Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Ghana, benefiting more students. Sandra Edidion, a student at Nigeria’s Afaha Okonkwo Nwafor College, said, “With these solar lamps, I believe I can do it, and we can all read at night.”

Since bottoming out on March 11, crypto asset prices have climbed steadily over a two-week period, with BTC briefly surpassing $87,000 and ETH recovering above $2,000. XRP has remained relatively stable, while BTC, ETH, and SOL continue to trade below their year-opening levels. SOL, which hit an all-time high in January following Cboe’s Solana Spot ETF filing, also remains down year-to-date. While the broader market has shown signs of recovery, derivatives activity reflects lingering caution. Demand for BTC and ETH put options remains elevated, signaling ongoing hedging behavior.

Cautious rebound in perpetuals

Perpetual open interest stayed flat for most of the week, underscoring a cautious, risk-off tone. A brief market rebound saw BTC rise to $88,000 — a two-week high — triggering modest increases in perpetual trade volume, primarily driven by BTC. Still, volumes remain significantly below those recorded earlier this month, when U.S. President Donald Trump proposed a national crypto reserve centered on the four largest tokens.

Funding rates suggest persistent bearish sentiment

Despite lower realized volatility and positive price movement among major assets, BTC and ETH perpetual contracts continued to post negative funding rates. This indicates that short sellers are still paying long positions, an ongoing sign of bearish sentiment. In contrast, large-cap altcoins showed more mixed positioning, with funding rates fluctuating between positive and negative without a clear directional bias.

Volatility retreats to yearly lows

Implied volatility declined by 3 to 5 points over the past week, with 30-day options now trading at their lowest levels since the beginning of the year. Realized volatility is also nearing the 30% floor last seen in February. As typically observed in low-volatility periods, options market activity has slowed, with open interest remaining low and relatively balanced between puts and calls. Around $40 million in options expired during the week.
